This is a vision for what Gloucester people and Gloucester organisations want Gloucester City Centre to look and feel like in 2028. It’s a relatively shortterm
timescale so that actions taken now can directly influence its implementation.
However, it is also deliberately ambitious, and whilst some of the aims may be beyond our collective reach, by 2028 we will have
made clear and positive steps towards achieving them. The Vision is underpinned by six key principles.
Nature Rich
Our city is green and biodiverse, and the impact on the natural environment is taken into consideration in everything that goes on. We want to make sure that nature is always part of the city.
Authentic
Future development in Gloucester city should reflect the locality and what makes Gloucester unique and distinctive. The design should be authentic for our city and the users.
Flexible
New and redeveloped buildings and spaces needs to have built-in flexibility to keep vibrancy and adaptability. Buildings should have multi-uses as well as multi-users to benefit as many people as possible.
Inclusive
Gloucester city centre is inclusive and has people at its heart. It is welcoming to all, offering a safe and clean space in which people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities are welcomed.
Zero Carbon
Our city can play a part in the national and global efforts to reach zero carbon. We can support reducing people’s use of carbon through greener forms of travel and less shopping.
Co-created
New spaces in our city should be designed by numerous stakeholders to make a truly co-created Gloucester. This should include the people, groups and organisations who will be using the final space.
